Earlobes can be damaged due to wearing heavy earrings, ripping the lobe, trauma, or wearing gauged earrings.
How Does Earlobe Repair Surgery Work?
The surgery will reflect your unique earlobe issues. If the lobe has been split, the two sides are reattached surgically, with a meticulous approach, restoring the round, natural look of a healthy earlobe. If you wore gauged earrings that elongated your earlobes and created a large hole, Dr. Birely will carefully remove the excess cartilage and skin, close the hole, and delicately reshape the earlobes to appear normal. If your earlobes were damaged due to trauma, your surgery will be customized based on the condition of your ear.
Recovery From Earlobe Repair
The correction will require stitches, which will be removed in about one week. Full healing may take about two to six weeks but does not require any time off work or other activities. It is performed in-office, and once the surgery is complete, you can return home. The earlobe will be bandaged, and the recovery is generally very comfortable. You may have mild swelling, some bruising, and numbness, all of which typically subside within two to three days. Any minor discomfort can be managed with over-the-counter pain medications.
