Ever considered breast surgery?
There are only 2 characteristics that make any breast the way it is: size and shape. From a size point of view, there are only 3 sizes a person can be after an operation compared to before:
- Bigger
- Smaller
- The same
Once the size is correct, we next address the shape.
For a woman who wants to be smaller, the recommendation is a breast reduction. Breast reduction patients are some of the happiest of all patients because they get double benefit from the procedure, physical and psychological. Physical benefit is usually seen with improvement of back, neck and shoulder pain. The psychological benefit is seen with regards to appearing to have lost weight, being able to wear clothes they could not wear before, being less self-conscious, etc. Best of all, breast reduction surgery is frequently covered by insurance.
If a woman wants to be larger than she presently is, the recommendation is breast implants. Today there is such a wide variety of implants available (saline versus silicone, round versus anatomic-shaped) that we are able to achieve results that were previously unobtainable, especially with the new anatomic-shaped gel implants. The operation takes less than 90 minutes and patients are fully recovered in 5-10 days with the only subsequent limitation being no heavy lifting for a few weeks. Occasionally a person will get a breast lift at the same time as an augmentation.
For the woman who likes the size of her breasts (does want to be bigger or smaller) but dislikes the overall appearance, i.e. shape, the recommendation is a breast lift. It is simply a matter of removing the excess skin and creating a “skin brassiere” in order to give the breast tissue proper shape and support.
If you would like additional information regarding any of the above options, I would strongly encourage you to schedule a complimentary consultation to just discuss how easily things can be made better with minimal surgery, pain and downtime.
